Arita Fatina Newkirk, 92, of Lenoir, NC passed away October 9, 2022, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born January 31, 1930, in Caldwell County to Eugene Horton Sr. and Mattie Witherspoon Horton.
Ms. Fatina was a faithful member of Beaver Creek Church until a period of declining health.
After many years of valuable service, she retired from Singer Furniture as an Inspector.
Ms. Fatina had the gift of “help.” Her ministry was helping others.
“She loved her family, but her children were her life.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Lee Newkirk, daughter, Fern Gay; and siblings, Trebel Denny, Gennis Davenport, Margaret Reid, Shirley Perkins, Robert Horton, and Herbert Horton.
Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Belinda Ringo and husband Carl; siblings, Willie Angeline Johnson, Charles Horton, and Eugene Horton; grandsons, Jemel Witherspoon and Malcolm Gay, Jr.; great grandchildren, Nautika Dula, Juhavyen Corpening, Jemel Witherspoon, Trilyen Witherspoon, Majesty Banner, and Liberty Banner; great-great grandchild, Treylin Brown; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be Saturday, October 15, 2022, 1:30pm, at The Life Center, 1881 Valway Road NW #1859, Lenoir, NC, with Pastor Darlene Stokes officiating. The family will receive friends 30 prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow service at the Horton Family Cemetery, Ferguson, NC.
