Barry "Chief" Stanton Britt, 70, of Gibsonville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully May 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Blind since early adulthood, Barry was never one to let limitations define him. His life was a testament to grit, determination, and the unshakable power of a strong will.
Born in 1954, Barry was one of six children and was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ossie German Britt, Alice Lucille Craven, and his siblings.
Despite life's many hardships, including the loss of his sight, Barry faced every challenge with a fierce independence and unyielding optimism. He spent over 31 years working at the same job, earning the respect of his colleagues and the admiration of everyone who knew his story. After retiring, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing a home that became his sanctuary- a place filled with the echoes of laughter, love, and family.
Barry shared 33 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Faith O'Brien Britt, who passed before him. Their love was the kind that left a mark on everyone around them- steadfast and enduring. Together, they raised a family rooted in love and resilience. Barry leaves behind multiple children and grandchildren who carry his legacy of strength and perseverance.
He was never one to sit still. A proud participant in a blind bowling league and a devoted player of blind beep-ball, Barry thrived in community and competition. His teammates knew him as someone who gave it his all- on and off the field- always encouraging others with his trademark humor and heart.
To know Barry was to know a man who refused to be defined by adversity. .He taught his family and friends not only how to survive hardship, but how to live fully and joyfully in spite of it. His memory will remain a source of strength for all who loved him.
A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Northside Baptist Church, 1100 E. Cornwallis Drive, Greensboro, North Carolina 27405 at 1:00 p.m., where his family will gather to honor a man who lived boldly, loved deeply, and left this world on his own terms- surrounded by the life he built and the people he cherished.
Rest well, Barry. You've earned it.
