Effie Lee (Obie) Barnett

In Loving Memory of Effie Lee Barnett, March 15, 1939- June 5, 2025.

Effie Lee Barnett, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, peacefully passed away at Beacon Place  in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Born on March 15, 1939, in Roxbury, North Carolina, Effie was a woman of quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering love for her family. She was the devoted mother of Patricia Cardinez and Daniel Barnett Jr., and the cherished grandmother of Nia Barnett, Anthony Cardinez (Adrian), Rachel Cardinez, and Latisha Cardinez.

Effie was preceded in death by her loving parents, Lois Yancey-Obie and Arthur Obie, Sr. as well as her dear brothers Arthur Obie Jr., Ted Obie, and Calvin Obie. She leaves to cherish her memory, sisters Nannie McCrawford, Shirley Obie, Thelma (Leon) Bryant and Zelma Wingfield. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Chyna Cardinez, Derrick Clay Jr., Antonio Cardinez, Alisha Jennings, Darius Clay, Bianca Clay, and Camrin Cardinez as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

As a member of the Bryant Park Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses, she dedicated her life to Jehovah on August 6, 1974. A woman of faith, Effie found daily comfort and joy in reading her bible and "getting out her lessons," as she fondly called it. She also had a deep appreciation for music, especially blues and old school classics which brought her peace and joy throughout her life.

A memorial service to honor Effie's life will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on 3520 McKnight Mill Rd. Greensboro, North Carolina 27407.

Effie Lee Barnett will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
