Garlin David Goins, Jr.

Garlin “David” Goins Jr., lovingly known as Harry, passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2026, surrounded by his family and dear friends after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was a devoted husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness and warm spirit touched countless lives.

David shared eight wonderful years with his beloved wife, Renee Goins, building a life rooted in love, laughter, and faith. Through their marriage, David embraced Renee’s children—Kim Brooks (Chris), TJ Quate (Alicia), and Tyler Quate (Kahli)—with warmth and pride. He cherished being lovingly known as “Paw Paw” to their children: Kailee, Trey, Marlee, Salem, Finn, and Waverlee.

Born to Garlin Goins Sr. and Joan Goins, David was a remarkable son who carried forward the values of hard work, compassion, and loyalty throughout his life. He is also survived by his sister, Julie McIntyre (David); his niece, Sarah McIntyre Stewart (Alex); and his nephew, Evan McIntyre (Susannah). He was preceded in death by his cherished mother, Joan Goins.

For more than 30 years, David worked as a skilled boat mechanic, a profession that allowed him to combine his talent with his passion for fishing and life on the water. His work led him to form friendships wherever he went, as people were naturally drawn to his easy smile, helpful nature, and genuine heart.

David found his greatest peace on the lake, where he felt closest to God and most at home. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, and his family finds comfort in knowing he is now rejoicing in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ and reunited with his mother.

David will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering love for family, dedication to friends, and the quiet joy he found in simple moments by the water. His legacy of kindness, faith, and friendship will live on in all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of David’s life will be held on Saturday, March 7th at Rankin Baptist Church, 3317 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and the service following at 2 p.m.
