Steven Charles Montgomery, 75, of Stokesdale, NC went to be with the Lord after a brief battle with cancer on August 29, 2022. He was born May 19, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois.
Steve was raised in Scottsdale, AZ where he attended Scottsdale High School where he was a star right tackle and member of the Scottsdale Quarterback Club.
Shortly after graduating, Steve joined the US Navy serving on the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam Conflict in the Tonkin Gulf. Upon returning to California, Steve attended college and then took a position with TWA in Guam.
He later became an employee of Continental Airlines where he was an aircraft inspector for 32 years until retiring in 2010.
Steve traveled from Alaska to California, Guam to Bombay until coming to Greensboro, NC in 1994 where he met Kay. They were married in 1997. They resided in Houston, TX until his retirement when they returned to NC to be near the children and grandchildren.
Steve enjoyed refinishing old furniture, restoring antique telephones and collecting old clocks. He loved puttering around on his old Farmall tractor. He will long be remembered for his outrageous jokes and stories of his many escapades from his Navy and airline days.
His greatest legacy is being the best Pop pop ever. He loved his grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his mother Jane Harriet Kautzman Montgomery and father John Merton Montgomery.
Steve is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kay P. Montgomery of the home and step-daughters Samantha (Mandy) Berry Cheek and husband Jeremy Heath Cheek of Kernersville, NC and Tabatha J. Berry and husband Joseph Shane Sheets of Stokesdale, NC, grandchildren Jacob Cheek, Kathryn Cheek, Madeline Sheets and Olivia Sheets.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 2PM at Charity Baptist Church 4079 Battleground Avenue Greensboro, NC where Steve and Kay are members. Everyone Welcome.
